University of Bristol Students’ Union, or Bristol SU, look after 21,000 students. Students’ Unions are central to any university experience, offering representation, social life, clubs, activities, advice and support. The beginning of the academic year is the busiest time of year for any Students’ Union, welcoming new and returning students with a whole range of events and activities.
Powered up ticket sales
Bristol SU wanted to capitalise on peak sales times with the excitement of A Level Results Day, encouraging new students to be the first to secure their Welcome Week ticket before they sold out. Nutickets was able to provide a stable and secure online ticket sales platform which handled huge spikes in traffic with ease, ensuring that no one was left disappointed.
Recognising an important opportunity to upsell ticket packages, we worked with Bristol SU to hit their NUS Extra Card quota by offering students the chance to purchase a Welcome Week bundle which included the code to redeem their NUS Extra Card. Nutickets can easily integrate additional merchandise opportunities seamlessly into the ticket buying process.
Streamlined event management
17,000 students took part in 120 Bristol SU events during Welcome Week 2014. Reducing queue times and controlling crowds is important to any organiser operating venues with large capacities, and student safety is of utmost importance to any Students’ Union. Using the Nutickets Entry System App, Bristol SU was able to regulate validity and entry to all ticketed events, recording data in real-time, with super-fast scanning speeding up entry management.
Building a buzz

Using our tools, Bristol SU was able to enhance their event reach by utilising each purchase to promote the event on the students’ Facebook walls encouraging friends to buy too, creating that buzz around the ‘alpha buyer’.
